ICSI is a procedure used for in vitro fertilization (IVF) whereby a sperm cell is microinjected directly into an egg to create viable embryos.
After that, the resulting embryos are transferred back to the uterus of the intended mother, so that pregnancy hopefully occurs. Given that it is a type of IVF, we often refer to it with the name IVF/ICSI.
The main advantage of ICSI are its high success rates. In most cases, pregnancy is achieved after the first attempt, even in the most severe cases of male infertility.
